Welcome! Whether you’re an organization returning to the survey or brand new to the process, we’re excited to have you be a part of this journey!
Here you’ll find step-by-step instructions to help you and your organization through the survey process from start to finish. These survey resources include videos, resources, templates, and answers to some frequently asked questions for all phases of the survey process.
Before March 21
April 25–May 12
After May 12
The survey includes mostly Likert or rating scale questions, on a five-point system ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. Participants can share verbatim comments for any question. Other questions include optional demographic questions and open-ended questions. The survey covers topics like employee engagement, leadership, collaboration, and communication.
This year’s survey questions are still being finalized. Here are last year’s questions for reference.
Workplace culture and the overall work experience has changed a lot over the past 3 years, so we’ve made some adjustments to the questions included in the survey. Most questions (about 80%) remain the same year over year and will still be comparable to 2022 or to prior years.
The Employee Experience Survey is administered only between April 25 - May 12, 2023. We can’t administer it outside this timeline.
If this timing isn’t right for your organization, you may find Pulse Surveys a useful alternative. You can administer a Pulse Survey at any time outside the Employee Experience Survey timeline, and the questions are customizable for your needs.
Leading Edge guarantees the confidentiality of all organizations and employees. We are committed to ensuring no individual organization’s data is ever made public. Any data that is shared will be in aggregate and will adhere to strict confidentiality thresholds. To ensure that staff feel comfortable being as honest as possible, all answers and comments that employees provide in the survey are 100% CONFIDENTIAL. At no point will your organization have access to individual responses or know who has responded to the survey.
Leading Edge will protect this information through a set of safeguards and security protocols, and results will be reported to organizational leaders as part of the organization's overall data. Leaders will be able to view and group data in different ways, but at no point will organizations have access to responses associated with any individual.
The primary use of your data is to deliver a customized report to you about your own organization’s employee experience. Secondarily, Leading Edge shares aggregate results with the broader community to highlight trends and patterns in our sector in an annual report. These reports include only the combined data from all of the organizations that have taken the survey.
We will never share specific data from your organization with anyone or include your organization's name in our reports without explicit permission. We may ask your permission to share examples of successful action plans that you implemented in response to your survey data.

The CEO Survey is designed for the most senior operational professional at your organization. This survey asks questions that are more relevant to the work they do than the questions on the Employee Experience Survey. CEOs of organizations with 10 or more employees will receive the CEO Survey and their employees will all receive the Employee Experience Survey. The surveys are administered at the same time even though the questions are different. CEOs should only take the CEO Survey.
If you have more questions that you don’t see on this page, please reach out to us at surveys@leadingedge.org.
The Survey Liaison is the primary contact person for Leading Edge throughout the survey process. We will be in touch with Liaisons often between now and June to make sure they stay on track in providing us and your staff with the information needed for a successful survey.
We expect CEOs (CEO refers to the senior most professional) to be committed to a confidential, thoughtful survey experience, to have the intention of finding strengths and growth opportunities from their results, to share those results with staff, and to take action on results.
